unfortunate 的詞源

15世纪中期，“不幸的，不受好运青睐的，不繁荣的”，因此“ unhappy”；来自 un- (1) “不” + fortunate (adj.)。

Infortunate 在同义上更早。中英语也使用 unfortuned (15世纪初)。在18世纪末-19世纪初，unfortunate woman 是“妓女”的委婉语。名词“一个不幸的人”记录于1630年代，但Fowler (1926) 将其归类为“陈词滥调”。
