「 censure 」の語源

14世紀後半、「司法判決」、もともとは教会的なもので、ラテン語のcensura「判断、意見」、また「検閲官の職務」から、census、censere「評価する、見積もる、査定する」の過去分詞形（censor (n.)を参照）。「欠陥の発見と非難の表明」という一般的な意味は1600年頃から。

1580年代、「判断する、裁定する」（現在は廃止）；1590年代、「逆批判する、欠点を見つけて非難する」、名詞のcensureから、またはフランス語のcensurerから、名詞のcensureから。関連：Censured；censuring。
