「 non-viable 」の語源

1823年、「生存可能な、生活する可能性のある」という意味で、フランス語のviable「生命を持つことができる」（1530年代）から、vie「生命」（ラテン語のvita「生命」、PIE語根*gwei-「生きる」から）+ -able。最初は新生児に関して使用されましたが、「存続可能な」という一般的な意味は1848年に記録されました。関連語：Viably。
