「 penumbra 」の語源

1660年代、「不透明な物体の影の周りの部分的に陰る領域、部分的な影」、現代ラテン語のpenumbra「日食の完全な影の外側の部分的な影」、1604年にケプラーによってラテン語のpæne「ほぼ、ほとんど、実際に」（起源は不確実）+ umbra「影」（umbrageを参照）から作られた。比喩的な使用は1801年。関連: Penumbral。
