community 어원

14세기 후반, "같은 지역에 거주함으로써 함께 연관된 사람들이 모여 형성한 집단"이라는 의미로, 또한 "일반 사람들" (지배자나 성직자가 아닌)이라는 의미로 사용되었으며, 고대 프랑스어 comunité "공동체, 공통성, 모두" (현대 프랑스어 communauté)에서 유래하였고, 라틴어 communitatem (주격 communitas) "공동체, 사회, 친목, 우정 어린 교류; 공손함, 무시, 친절"에서 유래하였으며, communis "공통의, 공공의, 일반의, 모두 또는 많은 사람들이 공유하는" (참조 common (형용사))에서 유래하였습니다.

라틴어 communitatem "은 단지 질의 명사였으며 ... '친목, 관계나 감정의 공동체'를 의미했습니다" [OED] 그러나 중세 라틴어에서는 "사람들의 사회, 집단"을 의미하는 구체적인 용어로 사용되었습니다. 영어에서 "공동 소유 또는 향유"라는 의미는 1400년경부터 사용되었고, "공통의 관심사나 직업을 가진 사람들의 사회 또는 협회"라는 의미도 1400년경부터 사용되었습니다.
