loop 어원

14세기 후반, "천, 로프, 가죽, 끈 등의 접힘 또는 겹침"으로, 유래는 불확실함. OED는 켈트어 유래를 선호하며 (게일어 lub "굽힘", 아일랜드어 lubiam 비교), 영어에서는 고대 노르드어 hlaup "점프, 달리기" (참조 leap (v.))와 영향을 받거나 혼합되었을 것으로 보임. 지문 특징으로서, 1880년. 자기 기록 테이프나 필름을 지칭할 때, 1931년 최초 기록. 컴퓨터 프로그래밍에서 "반복적으로 실행되는 명령어 시퀀스"의 의미는 1947년 최초 확인.

약 1400년경, loupen "고리 속으로 (레시를) 끌어당기다"라는 의미로 loop (명사)에서 유래. "루프나 루프들로 형성하다" (타동사)의 의미는 1832년부터; "무언가를 루프 형태로 만들다" (타동사)의 의미는 1856년부터. 관련: Looped (1934년 슬랭에서 "술에 취한"의 의미로); looping. Loop the loop (1900년) 원래는 놀이공원의 롤러코스터를 언급한 것이다.
