apartheid 的詞源

1947年（政策正式開始於1948年），“南非歐洲人與非歐洲人的隔離”，源自南非荷蘭語 apartheid（1929年在南非社會政治背景下出現），字面意思爲“分離”，來自荷蘭語 apart “分開”（來自法語 àpart； 參見 apart）+後綴 -heid，與英語 -hood 同源。官方英語同義詞爲 separate development（1955年）。
