toe 的詞源

中古英语 to（复数 toon，有时 toos），来自古英语 ta “人足的数字”（复数 tan），是 *tahe（梅西亚方言 tahæ）的缩写，源自原始日耳曼语 *taihwō(n)（也来源于古诺尔斯语 ta，古弗里斯语 tane，中古荷兰语 te，荷兰语 teen（可能最初是复数），古高地德语 zecha，德语 Zehe “脚趾”）。

不被认为与拉丁语 digitus，希腊语 daktylos 相关，在历史日耳曼语中显然仅应用于脚的数字，但可能在史前时期也指“手指”（许多印欧语言仍使用一个词来表示手指和脚趾），因此[Watkins]来自印欧语根 *deik- “展示”。
