「 Plains 」の語源

「アメリカ中西部の土地で、だいたい104度の子午線からロッキー山脈の東斜面までの範囲」とされるこの地域は、1755年に記録されました（単数形は1680年代から）。詳しくは plain（名詞）を参照してください。Plains Indian（平原インディアン）という表現は1844年から使われています。

This region has a gradual slope from the mountains to the Missouri and Mississippi rivers, but is nowhere broken by any conspicuous ranges of hills. It is a region of small precipitation, wooded only along the banks of the streams, and not always there.
