「 automaton 」の語源

1610年代、「自動機械」；1670年代、「機械的に行動する生き物」、ラテン語のautomaton（スエトニウス）から、ギリシャ語のautomatonの名詞用法、中性形のautomatos「自働的な」から、autos「自己」（auto-を参照）+ matos「考える、生命のある、意志のある」（PIEの*mn-to-から、*men- (1)「考える」の語根から）。
