「 detective 」の語源

「情報が求められる事柄、特に不正行為を行う者に関する調査を行い、彼らに対する証拠を集める職業の人」、1828年の定義で、detective police（探偵警察）の略語です。detective（形容詞）は「発見するために適した、または発見に熟練した」という意味で、1828年までに使われるようになりました。これは detect（発見する）と -ive（形容詞を作る接尾辞）から来ています。
