afterword 的詞源

古英語 æfter "behind; later in time" (adv.); "behind in place; later than in time; in pursuit, following with intent to overtake" (prep.)，源自 of"off"（見 off (adv.)）+ -ter，一個比較後綴； 因此最初的意思是 "more away, farther off."。比較一下古諾爾斯語 eptir"after," 古弗裏西亞語 efter，荷蘭語 achter，古高地德語 aftar，哥特語 aftra"behind; " 也見 aft。與希臘語 apotero"farther off," 古波斯語 apataram"further." 同源。
