christen 的詞源

"洗禮的行爲或儀式"，源於1300年，是 christen（v.）的動名詞。古英語中有 cristnung。

1520年代作爲名詞，“基督信徒和追隨者”； 1550年代作爲形容詞，“信奉基督教，接受基督教會的教義”，16世紀的形式取代了中古英語 Cristen（形容詞和名詞），源自古英語 cristen，來自西日耳曼語借用的教會拉丁語 christianus，來自教會希臘語 christianos，來自 Christos（見 Christ）。根據使徒行傳 xi.25-26，最初在安提阿使用：

And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
