convent 的詞源

"巫婆的聚會"，1660年代，早期是指"會議、聚會、集會"（約1500年）； 是 covent 、cuvent 的變體形式，源自古法語 covent, convent，源自拉丁語 conventus（參見 convent）。

Covent（13世紀）也指"修道院或修女院中的一羣男人或女人"。這個變體形式和這個單詞與巫婆的聯繫起源於蘇格蘭，但直到沃爾特·司各特在他的《魔鬼學與巫術》（1830年）中使用這個意義時才被普及。
