queer 的詞源

大約1500年，“奇怪的，古怪的，離奇的，古怪的”來自蘇格蘭語，可能來自德語低地語（不來梅方言）queer “斜的，偏離中心”，與德語 quer “斜的，反常的，古怪的”有關，來自古高地德語 twerh “斜的”（來自 PIE 詞根 *terkw- “扭曲”）。對於建議的意義演變，請參見 cross（形容詞）。但是 OED 反對這種詞源，理由是時間和意義。
