「 extradite 」の語源

1833年、フランス語の extradition（18世紀）から来ており、どうやらヴォルテールが作った言葉のようです。ラテン語の ex（「外へ」、ex-を参照）と、traditionem（主格は traditio）「引き渡し、手渡し」を意味する名詞から成り立っています。この名詞は tradere（「手渡す」、traditionを参照）から派生しています。

This word might be adopted in our language with advantage, as we have none which conveys the same meaning. Extradition signifies the delivering up of criminals who may have sought refuge in any country, to the government whose subjects they are, on a claim being made to this effect.
