rely 的詞源

14世紀中葉， relien，意爲"集結，組織"軍隊，追隨者，一羣人等（及物和不及物），源自法語單詞 relier，意爲"集結，組合； 繫緊，再次繫緊，附着，召集，義務，"，源自拉丁語 religare，意爲"繫緊，緊綁，"，源自 re-，這裏可能是一個強調前綴（參見 re-），+ ligare "綁定"（源自 PIE 詞根 *leig- "綁，捆綁"）。

較早的含義現在已經過時。"完全信任和信賴，將自己的信念寄託於"一個人或事物的含義始於1570年代，可能是通過"召集，依賴"的概念。通常與 on 一起使用，可能受到無關的 lie（v.2）"水平休息"的影響。相關的詞： Relied； relying。

The verb rely, in the orig. sense 'fasten, fix, attach,' came to be used with a special reference to attaching one's faith or oneself to a person or thing (cf.
