「 decolonization 」の語源

1853年に政治的な意味で「（場所を）植民地の地位から外す」といった意味で使われるようになったアメリカ英語の単語で、de-（取り除く）とcolonization（植民地化）を組み合わせたものです。もともとは医学用語として使われており、colon（結腸）から派生しています。

The great occupation of the nations of western Europe, from the beginning of the fifteenth century to near the close of the eighteenth century, was colonization and the establishment of empire on the American continent.
