「 loyalty 」の語源

1400年頃、古フランス語 loialte, leaute「忠誠、忠実性；合法性；誠実さ；良い品質」（現代フランス語 loyauté）から、loial（loyalを参照）から、ラテン語 legalemから。語尾は -ty (2)だが、ラテン語の語幹母音の消失がそれを隠している。中世ラテン語の単語は legalitasだった。

初期の中英語の形は leaute（13世紀中頃）、古いフランス語の形から。Loyalty oathは1852年に証明されている。
