*kaput- 的詞源

14世紀初，acheven，「執行，完成，實現」；14世紀末，「通過努力獲得」，來自古法語achever（12世紀）「完成，實現，結束」，來自短語à chef (venir)「結束，完成」，或俗拉丁語*accapare，來自晚期拉丁語ad caput (venire)；法語和晚期拉丁語短語的字面意思都是「達到頂點」，來自ad「到」（參見ad-）+ 拉丁語caput「頭」（來自印歐語根*kaput-「頭」）。

The Lat. caput, towards the end of the Empire, and in Merov[ingian] times, took the sense of an end, whence the phrase ad caput venire, in the sense of to come to an end .... Venire ad caput naturally produced the Fr. phrase venir à chef = venir à bout. ...
