「 lipogram 」の語源

「特定の文字を含むすべての言葉を避けて書くこと」（古代の文学的な遊びで、英語では通常 -e-）。1711年、ギリシャ語の lipogrammatikos から抽出された言葉で、文字通り「文字が欠けている」という意味です。これは leipein（「残す、欠ける」の意、印欧語根 *leikw-「離れる」から）と gramma（「文字、記号」の意、-gram を参照）から成り立っています。
