「 necropsy 」の語源

「死後検査」という言葉は、1839年に登場しました。これは、necro-（「死」「死体」）とopsis（「視覚」「見ること」、これは印欧語のルート*okw-「見る」に由来）を組み合わせたものです。動詞としての使用は1889年から記録されています。また、necroscopy（死体検査）という代替表現も1820年から確認されています。

This term [necroscopy] was first proposed by M. Vaidy (late of Paris, now of Lille). A single term is desirable to express the inspection of the dead body; and the one in question will form an euphonic adjective and adverb — as necroscopic, necroscopical — which adds to the conveniences. — Its derivation is evident ( nekros, a corpse' and skopeo, to inspect.)
